POS Overview
The Point of Sale (POS) is the heart of SalesHQ POS. It's where you process sales, manage orders, and interact with customers. This guide gives you a complete overview of the POS interface and its capabilities.
The POS Interface
The POS screen is designed for speed and efficiency, with a clean layout that works on both desktop computers and tablets.
Product Area (Left Side)
- Search Bar — Quickly find products by name, SKU, or barcode
- Category Filters — Filter products by category for easy browsing
- Product Grid — Visual grid of products with names and prices
Cart Area (Right Side)
- Customer Selector — Assign a customer to the sale
- Cart Items — List of products added with quantity and price
- Order Summary — Subtotal, tax, discount, and total
- Action Buttons — Pay, hold, clear cart
Payment Methods
SalesHQ POS supports multiple payment methods:
- Cash — Traditional cash payments with automatic change calculation
- Mobile Money — M-Pesa, Tigo Pesa, Airtel Money, and other mobile payment platforms
- Card — Debit and credit card payments
- Credit — Sell on credit to customers with credit accounts (requires customer selection)
- Split Payment — Combine multiple payment methods in a single transaction
Discounts
You can apply discounts at two levels:
- Item-level discount — Apply a percentage or fixed amount discount to individual items
- Order-level discount — Apply a discount to the entire order total
Holding Orders
If a customer needs to step away or you need to serve another customer, you can hold the current order. Held orders are saved and can be retrieved later to continue the transaction.
Barcode Scanning
SalesHQ POS works with USB and Bluetooth barcode scanners. Simply scan a product barcode and it's automatically added to the cart. If the barcode isn't recognized, you'll be prompted to search manually.
For more details, see Barcode Scanning.
Offline Mode
One of the most powerful features of SalesHQ POS is the ability to continue selling even without an internet connection. Sales made offline are automatically synced when connectivity is restored.
For more details, see Offline Mode.
Kitchen Tickets
For restaurants and food businesses, you can print kitchen tickets that show only the items the kitchen needs to prepare, separate from the customer receipt.
For more details, see Kitchen Tickets.
Receipts
After completing a sale, receipts can be printed on thermal printers. Receipts include your company logo, business details, items sold, payment information, and a transaction reference number.
For more details, see Receipts & Printing.
