Your First Sale
This guide walks you through making your first sale on SalesHQ POS, from adding a product to printing a receipt.
Step 1: Add a Product
Before you can sell anything, you need at least one product in your inventory. Navigate to Inventory → Products and click "New Product".
Fill in the basic details:
- Product Name — e.g., "Coca Cola 500ml"
- SKU/Barcode — The product barcode number (optional but recommended)
- Category — Select or create a category (e.g., "Beverages")
- Buying Price — Your cost price
- Selling Price — The price you charge customers
- Opening Stock — How many units you currently have
Click "Save" to add the product to your inventory.
Step 2: Open the POS
Navigate to the Point of Sale screen from the main menu. This is your checkout interface where you'll process all sales.
The POS screen has two main areas:
- Left side — Product search and product grid
- Right side — Cart/order summary with items and totals
Step 3: Add Items to Cart
You can add products to the cart in several ways:
- Search — Type the product name in the search bar
- Barcode — Scan the product barcode with a USB/Bluetooth scanner
- Browse — Click on a product from the product grid
Once added, you can adjust the quantity using the + and - buttons, or type a specific quantity directly.
Step 4: Select a Customer (Optional)
If you want to associate the sale with a specific customer (useful for credit sales or tracking purchase history), click the customer selector and search for or add a new customer.
Step 5: Process Payment
When all items are in the cart, click the "Pay" button. You'll see the payment screen where you can:
- Select the payment method (Cash, Mobile Money, Card, or Credit)
- Enter the amount received (for cash payments, the system calculates change automatically)
- Add a payment note (optional)
Click "Complete Sale" to finalize the transaction.
Step 6: Print Receipt
After completing the sale, you'll have the option to:
- Print Receipt — Send to your connected thermal printer
- New Sale — Start a fresh transaction
- View Sale — See the full sale details
